Parasailing
A towed canopy flight above the Red Sea reef line at Sharm El Sheikh — a few minutes of quiet, and the coast laid out beneath you.
About this experience
Parasailing is the least strenuous way to get height on this coast. You are harnessed under a canopy and towed behind a boat, lifting off the deck and climbing to somewhere around a hundred metres. What makes it worth doing at Sharm is what is underneath: the water is clear enough that from altitude you can read the reef structure — the pale shallows, the dark coral heads, the abrupt navy line where the wall drops away — with the Sinai mountains standing behind the town. The ride itself is surprisingly quiet once you are up, away from the engine.
What to expect
A short boat trip out from the marina or jetty to the towing area
Harness fitting and a briefing on the launch and landing signals
Taking off directly from the boat's platform as the line pays out — there is no running or jumping
Ten to fifteen minutes at altitude, usually flown solo or in tandem
A winch back down to the deck, normally landing dry
Good to know before you go
- Operators set weight limits at both ends — too light and you will not fly, too heavy and you fly tandem; confirm in advance
- Not suitable in pregnancy, or with heart, back or shoulder conditions
- Wind decides everything: flights are cancelled or moved to the following morning if it builds
- Secure or leave behind hats, glasses and phones — anything dropped is gone
- You can usually stay dry, but ask for a dip landing if you want one

Is parasailing in Sharm El Sheikh safe?
It is among the more controlled water activities on the coast: you launch and land from the boat itself under a winch, harnesses are checked before each flight, and operations stop entirely when wind conditions are marginal. There is no jumping and no running — the boat does the work.
How high do you go parasailing?
Typically around a hundred metres, depending on the line length and the wind. It is high enough to read the whole reef structure below you and see the Sinai mountains behind the coast, and the ride is calm once you are up.
Can two people parasail together?
Yes — tandem flights are standard and are often the default for heavier guests. Couples usually prefer them, and operators will advise on the weight range for solo versus tandem when the flight is arranged.
